Port's Freshmen Barbecue
In the past, freshmen students have been left alone to find their way, and make their own connections with people, but this year, with the help of COSA Mr. Medugno and Port's student council, the new freshmen Raiders have been welcomed with open arms. One of the most recent events held specifically for these Raiders was the Freshmen Barbecue, which took place on the football field this past Friday. Freshmen enjoyed burgers and hot dogs made by our exceptional staff, and were able to interact with the each other. Another highlight of the evening was the fact that many teams came out to show their support and get to know the freshmen. Everyone had a great time, made new friends, and we hope the festivities continue.

Gateway Meet and Greet
On Thursday, September 19th, college adviser and Gateway coordinators Ms. Watkins and Ms. Coakley organized their annual meet-and-greet, giving the Gateway SLC an opportunity to meet with new and old Gateway students and their parents. This year a new idea was implemented in order to provide easy access to help for the freshmen class in particular. Each senior was assigned a "buddy," or a freshman student, to guide and advise during their journey through high school. These students were able to meet their new partners in the school library while enjoying some refreshments that were provided by Ms. Watkins and Ms. Coakley. This sure sounds like a lovely idea and we hope that this match can result in life long friendships.

Chancellor Walcott Joins Track Raiders
On Monday, September 16th, City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott joined Port Richmond's Track Team yet again at Silver Lake Park to run with our team, and to motivate the athletes, showing Raiders that anyone can obtain a healthy life style through exercise and dedication. An enthusiastic runner and triathlete, Chancellor Walcott is soon to be stepping down from his position, and we are happy that he took time out of his busy schedule to share a lap with our young athletes. We guess Chancellor Walcott knows where the coolest athletes are!Chancellor Walcott runs with Raiders |

Ice Cream Social
This past Friday, September 13th, the senior Raiders welcomed the incoming freshmen with an ice cream meet and greet, The Ice Cream Social. This first time event surprised many Raiders, who were happily licking their free dessert from two participating ice cream trucks. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, new friendships were made, and Friday seemed a little brighter with the delicious desserts and friendly conversations.Wednesday, September 11, 2013
Raiders Honor 9/11
On the 12th anniversary of the devastating attack on New York City's Twin Towers, Port Richmond Raiders held a special assembly to commemorate all of the lives lost by the tragedy. A stirring performance of the national anthem played by trumpet player junior Brian Keegan, an impacting video news timeline, and a special guest speaker, writer and professor at Hunter University Samantha Smith, all made for a very moving experience, and a number of audience members were moved to tears. The quiet and respectful student audience was truly impressive, reminding us all of the terrible nature of this historic event and of the high quality of our Raiders.
