“Still I Rise” Inspired
by Christian Allamby

Broken lectures and hidden figures
Misunderstood by the white man, the life we lived was chilling
With a brush and canvas, Young children learned how to paint the sky
Back then African American children had their future painted red until the sun died
No more rise in these children
Parents were forced to hear them cry

A phenomenal model for the entirety of woman
She was raped and abused at 8, prostituted for the sake of living
Scarred enough to express words of black struggle
Published on white paper to show history had its sense of living in shuffle
Memories she hates, turned into a voice that could not be silenced

Justice was found in her poetic appearance
She pulled Tupac to the side just to clear up his visions
But of course he never listened
He’s laying dead or its just another untold story
Followed by a misfortunate loss of Big E, a Hip-Hop icon the industry was sad to lose

All a plot with no resolution
The conflicts surrounded by Big names with BLACK history
Everyday we wake always watching our backs like its the purge
Worse than the sequel, spilling blood like our economy uses our money to splurge

Still an influence to any colored fragrance
Still she rises, the reason blacks have lives they can finish
The words she printed gave way to new beginnings

But “Still I Rise” today
Even better than yesterday
The bars set higher
Need achievements i could write on my resume

STILL I RISE
STILL I RISE

Move on from just forgiveness
Embrace one another with love
The generation im apart of takes their freedom for granted
Still fighting, but at least the whip never had a chance to taste our blood

Fortunately for Maya Angelou, may her soul finally rest for good
